Children of the Blitz (2026)

#1632 Film Documentary     Main Disk

BBC 90mins. 2026 From September 1940 to May 1941, during the Second World War, over 35,000 tonnes of bombs and incendiaries were dropped on towns and cities across the UK during the infamous Luftwaffe aerial bombing campaign that became known as the Blitz. Just before the outbreak of war, the British government’s Operation Pied Piper put plans in place to evacuate millions of children, but only 800,000 left towns and cities that were vulnerable to attack. These are the stories of some of the two million children who stayed at home, often to help their families or because their parents couldn’t bear to send them away. This documentary features some of the last people who witnessed the reality of the Blitz, with their testimony offering an intimate, enlightening and moving portrait of wartime Britain through children’s eyes.
