The Three Tenors in Concert (1990) #644
MUSIC
Main
The Three Tenors in Concert, recorded live in Rome in 1990, holds the distinction in the Guinness Book of World Records (in 2010) of being the best-selling classical album of all time. The concert, held at the Baths of Caracella, took place July 7, 1990, just before the opening of the Soccer World Cup Final. This concert and album, which initiated the Three Tenors phenomenon, had the original purpose of raising funds for the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation and boosting the career of Carreras, who had only recently recovered from the disease. Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, and Carreras take turns singing opera arias, Broadway hits, and traditional Neapolitan songs, but on several tracks, the three tenors sing together. Zubin Mehta accompanies the singers, leading the orchestras of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. See: http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-three-tenors-in-concert-mw0001540440 |
